Powgnar Classic a Success!
Wow, what a weekend!
With an overflowing card full of players and a mountain ready for action, the 5th Annual Powgnar Classic took to the summer slopes once again. Players were up bright and early as registration began at 9am. The chairlifts began spinning and by 10:15 our first groups of hungry players were headed up the chairlifts in search of some big drives and flying birdies.
The competition was fierce with individual playoffs in every division of the tournament for the top spots! The Men's Advanced field brought in four players tied for the sixth and final spot aching to get into the advanced "Safari Six", and after a quick CTP playoff they were headed back up the hill to challenge the course with six huge safari bombs totaling over 3500ft in length and 1000ft of elevation change!
The Men's Intermediate, Men's Recreational, and Women's Intermediate fields all three concluded with ties for 2nd and 3rd place requiring playoffs in each division! It was wild to watch the playoffs and It really added some intensity to each finish as players dueled it out for position.
The playoff in our Women's division was a heated battle as the rains began to finally pour down towards the end of the day. Mindy Paulson and Joann Partridge both parred out in their playoff and took to the deck of Skibowl to play a final safari hole for one last shot at glory, with Mindy barely edging it out for the 2nd place finish on the podium.
Our player shout out goes to 4 time winner of the tournament Travis Head, shooting an amazing 8 down to take the title of the 5th Annual Powgnar Classic! Great work Travis!
We also want to send a heartfelt thanks to all of our sponsors of the event: The Chill Foundation, Loowit Brewing Company, Bad Monkey Bikes Board & Skate, Brewed 360, The Gorilla Crew, Firefly DGP, Skibowl and Discraft. Thanks to our super sponsors and an awesome raffle we raised almost $300 for The Chill Foundation and handed out over $1500 in cash and prizes to the players. It was a wondrous day and we couldn't have done it without these amazing people and organizations!
Already looking forward to next year! Thanks!
